It will be Djurgården and Malmö FF who settle for the title in this year’s edition of the Swedish Cup. This after victories against AIK and Halmstads BK in the semi-finals. Which team plays at home in the final will be drawn on March 24.
Malmö FF defeated Halmstads BK 4-0 at Örjans Vall in their semi-final, while Djurgården defeated AIK only after penalties at Friends Arena in Solna.
Djurgården’s victory means that the club is ready for this summer’s European qualifiers regardless of how it goes in the final. If Djurgården wins the cup, the club qualifies for the Europa League, while if it loses, it qualifies for the Europa Conference League. From before, it is clear that Malmö FF qualifies for the Champions League and that IF Elfsborg and BK Häcken have the other two Swedish European qualification spots.
The final between Djurgården and Malmö FF is set to be played on May 9. On March 24, the Swedish Football Association will draw which club will play at home.
