MUSIC Martin Garrix (27) is no longer the most popular DJ in the world. The Dutchman is at number three in the prestigious DJ Mag Top 100 of the British magazine ‘DJ Mag’ this year. David Guetta (56) has taken back the throne. Charlotte De Witte (31) was again crowned best techno DJ.
David Guetta is at the top of the list for the fourth time. Only Armin van Buuren, in five this year, won the election more often. He could call himself the most popular DJ in the world five times. Garrix, like Guetta, also has four wins. Just like last year, Charlotte de Witte was again named the best techno DJ in the world.
In the top 10 of most popular DJs there is also room for Afrojack (7) and just outside are Don Diablo (13), R3HAB (14), W&W (16) and Oliver Heldens (19). Big names such as Tiësto and Nicky Romero are slightly lower, at 23rd and 24th respectively.
1.3 million voters
The winner was counted down live via a livestream on YouTube. Guetta was allowed to end the broadcast herself with a set from a cliff on the Spanish island of Ibiza. Previously, the winner was always announced during the Amsterdam Music Festival (AMF) at the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). That collaboration came to an end in 2021.
According to DJ Mag, around 1.3 million people from 237 different countries voted this year.
