Djokovic’s Participation Record in Grand Slam Week: How Does He Compare to Federer and Who’s Next?

In the record race for the most participations in the second Grand Slam week, Djokovic still has a big name ahead of him.

Roger Federer, now in tennis retirement, even reached at least the round of 16 at a major 69 times in his career.

Of his 60 participations so far, the Serb was in the second week of the French Open 17 times this year. Djokovic was only able to win the title twice. The 36-year-old made another 15 starts in week two at the Australian Open (ten wins).

14 participations each fall to Wimbledon (seven wins) and the US Open (three wins). Remarkable: Djokovic’s 60 appearances are attributable to his past 65 Grand Slam tournaments. In the first five starts at the beginning of his career, the 22-time Grand Slam winner was eliminated in the first week. Since the French Open 2017, Djokovic has also been at least in the round of 16 21 times in a row.

His next opponent in Paris is Juan Pablo Varillas. The Peruvian knocked out the 13th seeded Pole Hubert Hurkacz from the tournament. Djokovic has to play Philippe-Chatrier in the second match on Sunday.
