Djokovic would like to see New York

During an event in Bosnia on Wednesday, Novak Djokovic notably spoke about his personal situation and indicated that he wanted to participate in the US Open in a few weeks.

Not vaccinated against the coronavirus, the Serb is currently not authorized to enter American territory and could therefore ignore this part of the season, which notably includes the Cincinnati Masters 1000 at first and especially the US Open then. Wednesday, on the sidelines of the inauguration of a tennis complex in the archaeological park of Visoko (Bosnia), the person concerned took the opportunity to discuss his personal situation. ” I’m a professional tennis player and I want to be wherever I can play. Politics don’t interest me. I have my opinions and what I want is for everyone to have the freedom to choose what is best for them,” the Belgrade native initially said.

Djokovic wants to be in New York and Melbourne

“I would like that, at least, my decision is respected. If I’m allowed, I’ll be in New York. Otherwise, it’s not the end of the world. (…) My expulsion from Australia? This saga was obviously not pleasant to live. A lot of people still think that I forced myself into Australia without permission, but that’s not true and I’ve proven it in court. I will never go to a country which does not want me and which would not have given me its authorization, also explained Djokovic, in remarks taken up by L’Equipe. And I do hope that I can come back in January. I love Australia and I want to go back there. And that’s where I had my best Grand Slam results. I hope I will be there. The message is therefore clear: in his quest for Grand Slam titles, the Serb does not want to make any impasse. However, not sure that the latter can be in Flushing Meadows at the end of August…
