Paris. Serbian legend Novak Djokovic, current world number 4, announced this Wednesday in a message on Instagram that he will not participate in the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000 (October 28-November 3).
“Unfortunately I won’t be playing @rolexparismasters [Masters 1000 de París-Bercy] this year. Sorry to everyone who expected to see me there,” wrote the former ATP number 1, who is still in contention to participate in the Masters at the end of the season.
Djokovic won the Paris tournament indoor on seven occasions, the last of them last year. He did not explain the reasons for his resignation, but he stated that he hoped to “be back” in 2025 to this traditional event at the final stretch of each season.
The year 2024 of Djokovic, 37, has resembled a symbolic transfer of powers to the new figures on the circuit, with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz at the helm.
His greatest success of the year was the Olympic gold, beating Alcaraz in the August final in Paris, but on the ATP circuit he has not won any title, something that has not happened since 2006.
Djokovic’s loss allows the American Alex Michelsen (43rd) to enter the draw directly, the tournament organizers said this Wednesday.
The season-ending ATP Masters will be held this year in Turin (Italy) from November 10 to 17. Djokovic is not yet qualified for that event and is sixth in the Racethe classification that defines the eight participants.
