Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, ranked 5th in the world, today ratified his stance that he is not vaccinated against the coronavirus, so if that doesn’t allow him to enter the United States next March to play two tournaments, he said, will accept it.
“What can I do? Nothing. They know my position, so it is what it is,” the Serb said at a news conference in Adelaide, where he is preparing to play the Australian Open, according to AFP news agency.
The US authorities have extended the Covid-19 vaccination obligation to international visitors, with whom the former world number 1 will probably miss the Indian Wells tournaments and the Miami Open.
“I hope I can play, but if I can’t go, I can’t go,” insisted the 21-time Grand Slam winner, who was expelled from Australia a year ago and couldn’t play the Melbourne Open due to not being adequately vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Djokovic also missed the 2022 US Open for refusing to be vaccinated, slipping to fifth place in the ATP rankings and risking losing up to 2,000 points in the standings if he can’t play in Indian Wells and Miami.
