Djokovic secured first place in advance thanks to his defense at the Australian Open, where he won for the ninth time. In total, he has already won the eighteenth grand slam title, and only two are separated from the record of Federer with the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who both have twenty triumphs.
The winner of a total of 82 tournaments therefore also adjusted his program this season. “Now that I’ve reached the historic first place in the number of weeks at the top of the list, it will be a great relief for me, because I will be fully focused on grand slams,” Djokovic said after the triumph at the Australian Open. “My goals will change a bit now, which means I will adjust my program as well,” he added.
Kvitová, who is celebrating her 31-year birthday today, won the 28th career title in Doha on Saturday, but it was not enough to move up the rankings. Australian Ashleigh Barty is still in the lead, Karolína Plíšková is sixth.

Czech tennis player Tomáš Macháč improved his maximum after the title at the challenger in Nur-Sultan and moved from 166th place to 137th place. “When I won the first tournament last February (challenger in Koblenz), I was in the ranking around 350th place and a year later I am in sight of one hundred and thirty. I know that the ranking is just a number and the most important thing is to keep improving and the results will come , “said Daniel Vacek, a 20-year-old trustee on the ATP website.
Macháč consolidated his position as the current Czech number two. The number one is Jiří Veselý, the 68th player of the ATP singles. Behind Macháč, Lukáš Rosol is in 186th place.
