DJI Neo is the lightest and smallest sports drone (not only) for YouTubers. It weighs 135 grams and has an autopilot – Živě.cz

DJI starts selling its lightest drone to date. It’s called Neoweighs only 135 gramshas the dimensions 130×157×48 mm and the manufacturer wants to appeal to YouTubers with it. Neo is not another version of the Mini “photo drone” series, but follows on from the sporty Avata.

Official DJI Neo Trailer:

Rather than photographing a family around a campfire, it is therefore suitable for vloggers who want to film spectacular fast flights between trees and scenery on vacation with a mini quadcopter. The solid construction without folding rotor arms corresponds to this, because DJI Neo is already at first glance a diminutive of the Avata series.

Drone for vloggers, but not very suitable for photos

The drone can film video 4K@30fps with electronic stabilizationbut if you’re content with 1080p, the on-board computer will fortunately also handle 60 fps. Stabilization, destabilization, a larger number of images is simply always known.

But it’s not really for photos, the cameras of sports drones from DJI are only armed gimbal with stabilization in one axisso when tilted to the side in the wind, the photo will naturally be tilted as well. Avata was no exception. In any case, expect 12MP images in JPEG and a 14mm equivalent, f/2.8 lens with a 117.6° field of view.

There is a basic autopilot

There is no shortage of software autopilot with automatic target tracking (eg cyclists, runners, skiers, etc.), or the popular QuickShots, i.e. short sequences that the drone shoots completely by itself, so the vlogger can jump, for example, on a rock, without holding a stick in his hand.

You can control it in glasses, with a gyroscopic stick, but also directly from your mobile phone

After all, as far as controls are concerned, just like with the Avata, DJI expects that a more experienced pilot will purchase the Neu goggles for FPV flyingor an effective gyroscopic stick RC Motion 3which controls the drone with a simple tilt of the hand. We already know this from the Avata series.

However, you can also control the drone using the classic DJI RC-N3 controller, and in the end, it is not missing either the possibility of piloting directly from the mobile application and via Wi-Fi. In that case, however, the range will of course be calculated at a maximum of a few tens of meters.

Speed 16 m/s and up to 18 minutes of flight

DJI Neo can handle gliding flight in sports mode with at a speed of up to 16 m/s and a rise of 3 m/s. Accumulator with capacity 1435 mAh should deliver juice at most 18 minute flight and you can charge it directly on the drone USB-C power input 15 W. In the charging dock, which is part of the Fly More Combo package, then until 60 W.

The sports drone can also fly in a disturbed area and without direct line of sight

The latest protocol will take care of the image transfer DJI O4 and even though the kite is small and so are the antennas, DJI promises a range even in a heavily disturbed band 1,5-3 km in direct visibility and up to 500 meters when covered by buildings.

European label C0 for least regulated flight

DJI Neo is sold in Europe labeled C0and so on belongs to the class of the least regulated aircraftwith which you can take off even in a park full of dog walkers and on vacation, as long as local regulations do not prohibit it (pay particular attention to flying in Czech national parks, PLA, near monuments, etc.).

The price starts at 199 euros

Price in official European e-shop DJI starts at 199 euros for the package without remote control. The drone is also available in some Czech e-shops, where you can expect a slightly higher price.
