DJI Mavic 3 Pro: The Ultimate Upgrade with Troika of Cameras

At the end of 2021, DJI introduced the new king of the skies, the Mavic 3 with a pair of cameras. Almost exactly a year later, its stripped-down version, the Mavic 3 Classic, arrived with only one camera. Six months have passed and here we are with another upgrade Mavic 3 Prowho is armed three cameras at once.

The devil knows how to label products, but it is precisely the new camera gimbal in which the premium Troika differs from its predecessors. After all, just look at comparison of specifications all three versions directly on the DJI website.

An almost kilogram belt

The airframe is the same and the quadcopter is only eight millimeters longer than its predecessors when unfolded due to a modified gimbal. The gimbal also affected the weight, so the Mavic 3 Pro is respectable 958g strap (Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Classic have weight jen 895 grams).

The new electronics also contributed to a shorter battery life, which dropped by three minutes. So it does it for up to 43 minutes in flight and 37 minutes in static hover under ideal conditions.

Newly added medium telephoto camera (70mm equiv.)

The main Hasselblad camera and the telephoto camera from the Mavic 3 on the Pro model are complemented by a medium telephoto lens:

  • 20MP kamera Hasselblad: 4/3 CMOS, f/2,8-f/11, 24mm equiv., 84° field of view
  • 48MP middle telephoto camera: 1/1.3″ CMOS, f/2.8, 70mm equiv., 35° field of view
  • 12MP telekamera: 1/2″ CMOS, f/3,5, 166mm ekv., 15° field of view

Video is encoded using H.264/H.265 as 8-10bit 4:2:0 HDR according to the selected mode. In the advanced version of the Mavic 3 Pro Cine, codecs are also available for all cameras Apple ProRes 422 LT/HQ s 10bit 4:2:2 HDR for saving video with less lossy compression.

Video encoded in ProRes is of course much larger, so the special Cine model is armed with a 1TB SSD. Other models have to make do with an SD card slot.

Hasselblad can handle up to 5.1K@50fps, 4K@120fps and FHD@200fps, the others offer a maximum of 4K@60fps. As for taking pictures, it complements ordinary photography with automatic or manual exposure, just like with other versions of the Troika burstwhich takes a straight series of images, AEB bracketingwhich takes a series of pictures with different exposures and of course timed imaging depending on the camera with a delay of 2-60 seconds.

Basic JPEG is complemented by RAW in the now standard DNG format.

Range for kilometers

The other parameters of the aircraft are really identical to the previous models. Therefore, there is omnidirectional detection of obstacles, warning of aircraft in the vicinity AirSense (ADS-B), O3+ protocol for image transmission to the controller at FHD@60fps with a latency of up to 130 ms and a distance of up to 8 km (European broadcasting standard).

In Europe, it has a radio range of up to 8 km

However, this only applies to an environment without any surrounding interference and with direct visibility. However, the O3+ should also be able to handle transmission through an obstacle – such as a building – up to a distance of 500 meters on the Mavic 3 Pro. However, this applies to the American FCC broadcasting standard, which is more generous than the European one and allows the transmitter to send a little more energy into the environment.

In order for the kilogram cat to even get off the ground, most of its insides are made up of a four-cell 5000mAh Li-Ion battery.
