TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Djarum Group confirmed that it would not express support for any of the candidate pairs in the 2024 presidential election. This also denied President Director Adaro Garibaldi’s statement Boy Thohir who said that the Djarum Group would support candidate pair number two Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
Corporate Communication Manager Djarum Budi Darmawan said that the statement was only a claim from Boy Thohir. He confirmed that Djarum Group had never given directions to its employees to support one of the candidate pairs.
“Maybe that’s just Boy Thohir’s claim. From the past, we in Djarum have never done that (vote raising). There has never been a raising of votes. You have to choose A, you have to choose B, no,” said Budi in his statement to Tempo on Wednesday, January 23 2024.
According to him, Boy Thohir’s statement was not made at a declaration event. The context of the event, said Budi, was also like a reunion event, so the statement was closely related to the element of friendship. “Many of Djarum’s employees studied in America, Erick’s generation. It was alumni and friends who came. I didn’t see many (in number). Only a few people (came),” said Budi.
Djarum Group, said Budi, believes that the people’s voice has sovereignty, so there is no need to order its employees to support one candidate pair. Apart from that, Budi claims, Djarum Group also always upholds democracy, especially regarding the political rights of citizens.

However, he said, Djarum Group did carry out socialization regarding the implementation of the elections. However, the socialization did not invite support for certain candidate pairs. The socialization carried out reminds employees to vote during voting and ensure they are registered. “The socialization campaign is to support dignified, honest, fair, safe and peaceful elections,” he said.
Budi also confirmed that the Djarum Group will remain focused on running its business and will not be affected by the 2024 presidential election.
Previously, Garibaldi Thohir alias Boy Thohir claimed that a third of contributors to the country’s economy were ready to help win the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka pair in one round.

On that occasion, the ETAS volunteers, numbering more than 100, expressed their support for Prabowo- Gibran in the 2024 Presidential Election.
Boy Thohir also said that although it may seem small, these volunteers represent a fairly large part of the Indonesian economy. “So if they start from the Djarum Group, Sampoerna Group, Adaro Group, who else, basically all the groups are here, there is Ninin, the richest woman in Indonesia, and everyone, sir.”
