For Cali DJ Martin Trevy, the pandemic also changed his plans. He had planned to pack suitcases and move once and for all to Europe, where his music is widely listened to, but the quarantine caught him in Cali and while things calm down, he chose to stay in the city where he was born, where his family is. , and that still moves his heart. “I love Colombia and how rich it is to be here at this time,” he acknowledged.
Trevy is one of those who believes that everything in life happens for something, so instead of complaining about his indefinite stay in Colombia, he decided to make the most of his time.
Precisely for this moment of uncertainty that the world is experiencing, he released ‘I found a way’, a song that from the beginning reflects in the lyrics the importance of moving forward despite adversity.
Martin says that this song was born at the end of a period of anxiety that he had in his life: “I sat down one afternoon and wrote half of the song, after a short time I completed it, it flowed very easily. What came out of me was instantaneous and it was merely a narrative of what I went through. The beauty of the lyrics is that in the end there is improvement, a way to overcome difficulties, because there is always a way to get ahead, a way to find the light. There is always the option of choosing the path of peace and tranquility ”.

The video for the single, in which Trevy does not appear, was shot in Chicago, under the direction of Aaron Spitz and starring three actors who, in three individual stories, show how they turn their everyday situations into colors, music and smiles.
Likewise, this year he also recorded the video for his song ‘Morning breeze’, in which Trevy does appear as the protagonist, with Dapa as the stage. “This year has been a unique experience,” he says.
Meaningful music
Trevy always had the support of his parents when he began his career as a DJ and is always grateful for it. “My parents saw that I had the desire and the discipline and that gave them peace of mind, but I know that there are many who do not support them”, no matter how much the person tries and shows their dedication.
Although in the collective imagination being a DJ is a ‘simple profession’, Trevy explains that “being a very good DJ is more difficult than people think. It is not just going from one song to another, it requires an ability to read to the public, to be very connected with what people want. A Dj who is not good, a normal Dj, has in a memory the songs he is going to play, he puts them on and that’s it; but a DJ, who is at another level, tries to read to the public and sees what people need ”.
What Cali likes most about electronic music is rhythm and the ability to polish different styles. For example, he feels that by combining pop and electronic songs in his songs, he makes them easy to digest and people can listen to them in the gym, in the car, at a party, a festival; “Electronic music gives you different musical options, it is very extensive and its creative capacity is greater.”
Currently all of Trevy’s songs are in English, because his first approach to music was through the Backstreet Boys, Cher and he came to electronic music with DJs like Avicci, Calvin Harris, who have their music completely in English. But in 2021 the artist plans to release electronic music in Spanish, as his followers have requested.
“My purpose with my music is not only to make music that sounds good, but to make music that transforms lives, that contributes something to society. With this I do not mean that music is boring, electronic music has the rhythm that makes one move, but it has the lyrics, the pop point, which are deep, help us to reflect and contribute to us. Many times one can create music just to create it, to make it sound good, but ultimately as an artist since I started my goal has been to make music with purpose. There are so many songs and so many artists, and I think the lyrics are the way to put my stamp on, ”he says.
The importance of mental health
Martin Trevy is part of the #MoveforMentalHealth campaign, which seeks to raise awareness about the mental health of young people around the world.
In turn, the artist speaks openly through his social networks about his moments of sadness, in order to support other young people who go through what he has gone through and remove the taboo.
“Sadness is a normal emotional moment that we all go through. I love being able to share my experiences with people, because I have found tools that have illuminated my path and this is my way of giving back to people. This is a somewhat taboo subject, which many hide, but it is something normal and that is why I have joined with organizations or campaigns that seek to move people to support the mint health day ”, Trevy explains.
Through his music he also tries to help people in their difficult moments. Trevy believes that music “raises our vibration” and that the messages of the lyrics also help, so he always seeks to make positive lyrics.
