Last month it was announced that Van den Berg will fill in for U2 next autumn, because drummer Larry Mullen Jr. is temporarily out of the running due to an operation.
Until now it was a mystery how the Irish band ended up with the Dutch musician. Garrix, who has worked with U2 and knows Van den Berg from the Herman Brood Academy, has therefore played a role in this.
U2 was immediately impressed by his game and by him as a person, says The Edge. “He is very sweet and it is nice to spend time with him. That is of course very important, because U2 runs on deep friendships and relationships.”
The guitarist is optimistic about how the band members will sound together with Van den Berg during the concert series in Las Vegas. “I think it’s going to be great.”
They will, however, miss their regular drummer. “It is the first time in the forty years that we have been working together that this has happened. It is special that something like this has never happened in the past.”
Van den Berg will play with U2 as long as Mullen Jr. has not recovered. His departure from Krezip is therefore seen as temporary.
