In the midst of the fight for the American League Wild Card spots, New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu has suffered hip and groin discomfort for over a week. The diagnosis the player received is of a sports hernia.
The 2020 season batting champion received a cortisone injection to treat an inguinal hernia yesterday and is expected to play the last game of the regular season tomorrow. Nevertheless, the injury will require an operating room visit when the ‘Bronx Bombers’ season ends.
In the 2021 season, LeMahieu has participated in 150 games for the Yankees and has appeared to bat 597 times and has had 160 hits for a .268 average. The 33-year-old is in his third season with the Yankees and the first of a six-year, $ 90 million extension he signed in January.
Defeat against Rays
The Yankees lost 12-2 to the Tampa Bay Rays in the penultimate game of the regular season. Brandon Lowe was the standout player of the game, hitting three home runs and driving in seven of the Rays’ 12 runs.
With this result, New York has yet to secure its Wild Card spot since it only has a half game advantage over Boston, who face the Washington Nationals, and a game and a half over Seattle Marineres and Toronto Blue Jays. The other teams have yet to play today.
