/ world today news/ Should the whole world understand that we are facing local elections?
Nodal points in Sofia have been excavated, trenches and huge holes are gaping, the summer wind is blowing dust and bringing tears to the eyes of the people of Sofia who have been maddened by Fandakova‘s renovations. But this time, unlike other years, the sidewalks have also been dug up. Yes, the sidewalks, for which 25 years were not enough money and strength to fix. And we would become the European capital of culture… But before we mess with culture, it would be good to fix the infrastructure and the hygiene of the urban environment. But neither the mayor nor the municipal council understood this.
No one was spared from the mayor’s renovations in Sofia. Wherever you live, you still have to go through the center, wherever your home is, you will still be stuck with your car in some traffic jam, because of the repairs. And the phrase “it’s for the best – we will endure” is not comforting at all. But the people of Sofia are already tired and disgusted with the way this is done. No schedule, no warnings, no thought. And without subsequent quality – examples are everywhere.
And the chaos in transport is unimaginable. There is no such movie! To get from point A to point B, for example, from Knyazevo to the Courthouse, you have to change at least 3 vehicles, finding their stops by intuition. And again to walk from the Russian Monument to the Courthouse, but with caution as in a state of emergency, because you risk tripping over 2 meters.
Not for the first time, months before the local elections, especially during the management of GERB, the mayors in big cities have energy disproportionate to their capabilities. And a construction bacchanalia begins, people and equipment are brought out, streets and intersections are blocked, as if they were going to build Cheops’ pyramids. Nobody thinks about people. At least for Sofians. The managers think that July and August are months of mass vacation, and no one looks at the statistics to make sure that most of the capital’s residents use weekends and not long absences from the city for recreation.
Every year, Sofia’s budget is bigger than the previous one, and this year it is a record BGN 1.49 billion. The allocation of funds under the investment program of the local government has been criticized more than once – mainly because of the understated spending on education and health care, incorrectly planned revenues, repairs of the infrastructure in the city center at the expense of that in the outer districts. And they are right – this is a budget of the rich center and the poor periphery.
Thefts and public procurement in repairs are just another topic…
Therefore, in the midst of the melting heat, we can at least shout: “Ave, mayor, the tortured people of Sofia salute you!”
