Goodbye Mallorca, hello DIY store! Since Corona has made traveling difficult or impossible, Germans have a new favorite place to get rid of cabin fever: the DIY store. Hobbyists had to be patient for weeks, then there was a rush to DIY stores when restrictions were relaxed. The trend continues: everything that makes the home more beautiful is in demand. Focus TV documented the hustle and bustle in a large DIY store in Waldbröl, North Rhine-Westphalia, and accompanied customers home with their purchases. Among them is the Klawa family, who use every minute to renovate their living room. They have time, because business is bad for the tattoo artist and the taxi driver during the crisis. Because their children are not yet allowed to go to school, they can eagerly help out. Will they manage to spruce up their living room and repair massive water damage to the ceiling without outside help? Meanwhile, specialist consultants Saskia Weber and Micha Adolphs have to hold the fort on the DIY store front. That means enforcing the new distance and hygiene rules and literally showing customers where the hammer hangs. Will they always succeed? The Focus TV report on Germany’s DIY summer of the century.
