Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights in Turin

The events organized for Diwali 2024, the most important Hindu anniversary, which celebrates the victory of inner light over the darkness of evil, spreading the values ​​of peace and brotherhood among peoples, will start from the city of Turin.

It is not only a moment of prayer and meditation, but also a great celebration of Light, which this year too will pass through various Italian cities, coloring autumn with magical atmospheres.

The events will take place from October 24th to November 3rd, promoted by the Italian Hindu Union and by the Divali Spontaneous Coordination of which Sanijvani, the Hindu Union of Turin, is the leader, in synergy with numerous yoga schools, artisans and traders linked to the world of India and in collaboration with the MAO, Museum of Oriental Art and the Bharatiya Telegu Samithi Turin association.

On Thursday 24 October the MAO will host “Divinities and myths. Hinduism in the MAO collections”, a guided tour of the gallery dedicated to South Asia and South East Asia curated by Alberto Pellissero, professor of Philosophy, Religions and History of India and Central Asia and of Language and Literature Sanskrit at the University of Turin. He will guide the public through the extraordinary collection of Indian and South East Asian statuary, exploring the representations of divinities and myths that span time and offer a glimpse into the immense richness of a thousand-year-old culture that is still alive today. The event will be repeated on Wednesday 30 October.

Saturday 26 October important appointment at Sporting Dora, in Corso Umbria 83 where, opening from 10.30, a whole day of shows, workshops, training and in-depth moments, yoga, dance and music lessons, a market and various stands.

In the hall there will be an Ayurvedic medicine conference entitled “Ayurveda in the age of Vata” and a yoga conference entitled “From breathing to meditation”, with an Ayurvedic self-massage session and yoga for children.

In the courtyard, storytelling on Indian myths and a creative workshop inspired by the Divali festival will be offered, in collaboration with the MAO, during which participants will be able to use unusual materials to create their own work inspired by Rangoli, the traditional colorful designs that are made on the floor, with powders and different materials, on the occasion of holidays and ceremonies.

Throughout the day, a market will be set up with stands organized by Container concept store, Govinda Tibetan bells, Nature & spirit; Evany Henna Body Art; Nero Natura and others.

The event is organized with the patronage of the Piedmont Region, Municipality of Turin, Metropolitan City of Turin, Consulate General of India in Milan, District 1, 4, 8, Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Turin.

Last appointments on Sunday 3 November at the Astra theatre, via Rosolino Pilo 43, where traditional Indian dance shows will be staged with internationally renowned artists, such as Triveni, Danza Kuchipudi, Nishrinkala Academy, Sai Venkata Gangadhar, Lakshmj Vempadappa, Punyah Dance Company.

The Italian Hindu Union’s Diwali celebrations will then continue as usual in Rome, Milan, Pontedera, Savona and numerous other Italian cities.
