Divining Equipment, This 16th Century Mirror Confirmed to Be of Aztec

Suara.com – Scientists find obsidian hand mirror once owned by Renaissance polymath John Dee, came from Aztec.

This confirms the long-standing mystery of John Dee, who was born in 1527.

Renaissance thinkers were interested in all manner of things, from mathematics, geometry, and astronomy to astrology, alchemy, and the occult.

This was pre-Enlightenment Europe, when thinkers gave credence to all sorts of ideas that now seem rather strange.

John Dee was scientific adviser to Queen Elizabeth I from 1550 to 1570, but his interests continue to be in the supernatural.

In the 1580s, John Dee was actively scrying or doing divination, to predict the future.

The tools include a crystal and several mirrors, one of which is a handheld mirror made of obsidian.

Historians have suspected that this striking black mirror originated in the Aztecs, but there are no records showing how John Dee obtained it.

Recent research published in Antiquity now clear up the matter, confirming the origin of the mirror to be from the Aztecs.
