After you have created an account in the app, you can join a group with other users or create a new one. This way, you can set up a group for any type of expense management, be it for a shared apartment, a joint event or even a vacation trip.
Each group member can record their expenses there – for example, for a meal together or a shopping trip. The expenses can be categorized and you can specify how they should be divided among the group members. By default, this is divided equally, but it is also possible to specify individual shares if, for example, someone has contributed more to the joint purchase than others.
Particularly helpful when travelling is the ability to save expenses in the app in different currencies Splitwise automatically converts the amounts based on the current exchange rates.
The app is available for free for iOS and Android, but collects data about expenses in accordance with data protection regulations and displays targeted advertising based on this. There are only fewer ads with the paid subscription “Splitwise Pro”, which offers additional functions such as scanning receipts.
