Divers search for body in water recreation area Sumanta | Inland

It is the fourth working day in a row that the police are searching intensively in and around an area of more than 6,000 m2 between Hoorn and the village of Scharwoude. The recreation area De Hulk is one of the areas where Sumanta’s body may have been dumped by main suspect Manodj B. from Hoorn and family members who are co-defendants in this case.

The 22-year-old student Sumanta from Hoorn, who was pregnant at the time, was not seen again after February 18, 2018. The police have strong indications that B., the only suspect still in custody, stabbed her to death because she refused to comply with his request to have the unborn child, which was his, removed. With the murder he would have wanted to save the family honour.

Water at parking lot

After a cordoned off area was searched with prods and metal detectors last week, today’s search focuses mainly on the water around the ribbon-lined search area, a kind of peninsula, in the recreation area.

Last week a lot of reed was removed along the banks to make it easier to search in the water. It is remarkable that the divers mainly search along an area that was searched earlier in May. These locks border directly on the parking lot at part of the recreation area.

Police do not make announcements

A police spokesman said on request that no announcement was made about the progress of the search. “I can confirm that there are divers in the water now. We are not making any statements about the next steps and how long we will continue to search.”
