Divers find wreckage of a submarine that sank in the Aegean Sea over 80 years ago

The Jantina submarine sailed from the Greek island of Leros with 48 sailors on board. The ship sank on 5 July 1941 after being hit by torpedoes from a British submarine.

The sunken boat was discovered by the team of diver Costas Toktarides near the island of Mykonos at a depth of 103 meters using a ROV Super Achilles underwater vehicle. He conducted a detailed examination and visual inspection of the wreckage.

The publication noted that this is the fourth submarine discovered by Toktarides.

Jantina was launched in 1932 in Italy, its length is 61.5 meters, width is 5.6 meters, wrote the site News2sea… After the torpedo attack, six members of the submarine’s crew survived, they sailed to the island of Delos.
