Divers find 220 kilos of cocaine under ship in Rotterdam

In the port of Rotterdam, customs found 220 kilos of cocaine under a ship from Santos, Brazil. The drugs were hidden in four sports bags in a sea locker on the side of the tanker. The special tanker is made to transport fruit juice.

Sea boxes are openings below the surface of the water in which, for example, the engine room is cooled with the aid of seawater. A specialized diving team has been deployed to retrieve the drugs. A spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service says that inspections under ships are standard, “but sometimes there is reason to do so.”

Drugs destroyed

A partnership of customs, FIOD, seaport police and the Public Prosecution Service in Rotterdam are investigating the case. The drugs have been destroyed. “The ship is now detained in Rotterdam and is still being investigated. Nobody has been arrested so far,” said the spokesman.
