A diver died on Saturday afternoon in the Veerse Meer near Wolphaartsdijk. A police spokesperson confirmed this after reports from Broadcasting Zeeland. The cause appears to be a medical incident.
Nothing is yet known about the identity of the deceased diver. He reportedly became unwell when he wanted to enter the water at a diving site in the Veerse Meer around 1:45 p.m. Several emergency services, including an air ambulance, arrived on the scene. With the help of bystanders, they tried in vain to resuscitate the diver.
According to the spokesperson, the police are currently assuming a medical incident, but other possible causes are also being investigated.
