In the Netherlands and the United States there have been lawsuits and claims for damages against companies responsible for PFOS pollution in recent years. In De Standaard, the Zwijndrechtse Wendy D’Hollander tells that she no longer eats eggs from chickens from her own garden. Important detail: D’Hollander obtained his doctorate from the University of Antwerp with research into PFOS concentrations. “That you are no longer allowed to eat Zwijndrecht eggs? I dare not say that now”, responds mayor Van de Vyver.
D’Hollander also complains in the newspaper about the great ignorance in Zwijndrecht about the dangers of PFOS and about the local situation. “Why is it that our citizens know so little? I look at the responsibility of the Flemish government and 3M for that,” says Van de Vyver on Radio 2 Antwerp.
