Disturbing Dog Abuse Scandal at Officially Licensed Breeding Ground: 1,400 Dogs Rescued

[앵커]

About 1,400 dogs that were abused at a dog breeding farm in Gyeonggi-do were rescued.

Nearly 100 carcasses of dead dogs, including mother dogs with open stomachs, came out of the freezer alone, and this was happening at officially licensed breeding grounds.

Reporter Choi Yoo-kyung covered the story.

Dozens of dogs are tightly packed inside narrow cages.

The wound is neglected and the hair is missing in places.

Feces and feed were mixed as is.

Carcasses wrapped in newspaper are piled high in the freezer.

When I open it, I see a mother dog with a split belly.

Nearly 100 bodies were found in the freezer alone, and it is estimated that there are hundreds of bodies buried in the back mountain.

After receiving reports of abuse, the Gyeonggi Provincial Special Judicial Police and animal protection groups rescued 1,400 remaining dogs.

A whistleblower described the harrowing scene this way:

They fed only enough so that they would not die, and pulled out the puppies. The body was frozen and ordered to be buried in the back mountain. The sick dog was illegally euthanized by giving an injection…

This is what happened at the ‘officially licensed dog breeding ground’.

The owner of the business, which boasted ‘the best facility in Korea’, gave up ownership of the animal after a quarrel.

The rescued dogs were moved to facilities run by local governments and animal protection organizations.

The Gyeonggi-do special envoy decided to continue an additional investigation into the breeding grounds, including allegations of violation of the Animal Protection Act.
