They keep trying. Unfortunately, it can be assumed that, despite many warnings, they actually succeed one time or another: fraudsters who pretend to be grandchildren or fake police officers in order to get at the assets of older people.
In the Wesel district, more and more calls have been going out to older people these days with precisely this goal. But those called behaved correctly: they hung up, refused to be chased into the box horn and then called the police.
Recently, the fraudsters were working with a special scam in Hünxe, among others. A scam that the police are not new to, but which they have also already warned about, but which, due to the shock experienced by those called, gives rise to urgent warnings again.
The 90-year-old woman from Hünxe told her supposed niece that she had caused a serious car accident. You would have to immediately deposit the accident costs of 35,000 euros with a lawyer. And of course the whole thing must stay “between us”. The 90-year-old shouldn’t tell anyone about it.
But she did so because the old lady was completely exhausted. Needless to say, her real niece was amazed.
At this point, the police, especially the relatives of the elderly, ask their relatives to be made aware. If in doubt you should always call the police.
