All districts covered by ARS-Norte decreased new cases of infection with covid-19 between the weeks of November 19 to 25 and from November 26 to December 2, according to a report consulted by Lusa.
According to the report by the Regional Health Administration of the North (ARS-N), which weekly reports the epidemiological evolution in the region’s counties – and which the Lusa agency had access today – the district of Bragança was the one that registered the greatest decrease in cases in the period (-45%), followed by Viana do Castelo (-42%), Braga (-38%), Aveiro (-31%), Porto (-30%), Viseu (-23%) and Vila Real (- 9%).
The district of Braga went from 536 new cases, between 19 and 25 November, to 297 cases, between 26 November and 2 December, while in Viana de Castelo the registration of new cases decreased from 828 to 484, in Braga it decreased from 7,623 to 4,725, in Aveiro from 2,144 to 1,473, in Porto from 10,739 to 7,553, in Viseu from 312 to 241 and in Vila Real from 1,133 to 1,026.
In an analysis by municipalities, there was only an increase in the number of cases in S. João da Madeira (Aveiro district, with + 12%), Esposende (Braga district, with + 31%), Peso da Régua and Santa Marta de Penaguião (Vila Real district, with + 12% and + 78%, respectively), and Lamego and Resende (Viseu district, with + 20% and + 22%, respectively).
According to the report, Chaves was the municipality in the North that, in the last week under analysis, presented the highest incidence of new cases per 100 thousand inhabitants (1,118.4 cases), followed by Mondim de Basto (979 cases), Trofa (877.2 cases) and Esposende (772.4 cases).
Considering the incidence of new cases in the last two weeks (14 days) per 100 thousand inhabitants, an indicator for which the value of 240 serves as a reference for the application of restrictive measures to municipalities, also stands out, with the highest values, the municipalities of Chaves, Mondim de Basto and Trofa (with, respectively, 2,216.4 cases, 2,029.9 cases and 1,900.2 cases).
In this indicator, the average for the North region now stands at 1,096.3 cases.
In Portugal, 4,803 people died from 312,553 confirmed cases of covid-19 infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health.
The country has been in a state of emergency since November 9 and until December 8, a period during which there is a mandatory curfew in counties with the highest risk of contagion.
During the week, the curfew must be respected between 23:00 and 05:00, while on weekends and holidays circulation is limited between 13:00 on Saturday and 05:00 on Sunday, and between 13:00 on Sunday and 05:00 on Monday.
