It has been five years and a month since this newspaper reported for the first time on the imbalance of Wärme Frauenfeld AG – and how it was to be remedied clandestinely with money from Winterthur. It was the beginning of the so-called “Wärmering Affair”, which should cost two Stadtwerk cadres the job and a city councilor.
This week it should have come to the last act – the court hearing against two former Stadtwerk executives. Should. Because the process is canceled due to illness. Not for the first time.
The bill fudged
The former director and the former CFO of Stadtwerk Winterthur are accused of forging documents in office. In the course of the Wärmering affair, you are said to have fudged the figures in Stadtwerk’s 2015 annual accounts.
They wanted to cover up the financial difficulties of Wärme Frauenfeld AG and the Wärmering Frauenfeld project. The entire area of energy contracting should be better represented at the expense of other reserves, says the indictment. The presumption of innocence applies to the accused.
City council not in the dock
However, the former city councilor Matthias Gfeller (Greens) is not charged. Although he knew of the events and tolerated them. He even said to an external expert: “I didn’t really care.” But he did not make himself a criminal offense. Nevertheless, like the two defendants, Gfeller had to vacate his post in the course of the affair.
The public prosecutor’s office is demanding a conditional fine of 180 daily rates of 120 francs for the former director and one of 120 daily rates of 200 francs for the former chief financial officer.
The postponement date is not known. The court attaches importance to the determination that the postponement was not due to a Covid disease, especially not in the ranks of the members of the court.
