District Administrator Honors Top Athletes in Borken Career College Ceremony

Last Monday, the District Administrator, Dr. honored 66 athletes in Borken Career College’s triple gymnasium. Kai Zwicker received the “Sports Medal of Honor” for her achievements in sports last year. Among those honored is Pauline Meyer from Gronau-Epe (TV Westfalia 07 Epe), who took third place in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the German Championships. The TV Westfalia 07 Epe team with Elissa Albers (Epe), Franziska Dinkelborg (Gronau) and Fabiane Meyer (Epe) also received an award for their second place at the German Championships in the 3 x 800m relay race.

The district administrator recognized Rorik Janssen from Bocholt as “Trainer of the Year”. Dr. Zwicker in a suit that was completely unusual for him. He and the moderator of the event, Raimund Stroick, came in dobok – this is a “fighting suit” worn during training and competition, especially in Taekwondo. None of them then put each other on the carpet, but instead they rolled out the proverbial red carpet for the most successful domestic athletes in 2023 in the presence of several guests from sports and politics. The informative and entertaining ceremony was accompanied by the melodious “Holzfäule” saxophone quartet.

In front of the District Administrator Dr. While Kai Zwicker discussed the success of the main athletes here, he looked back on the 2023 sports year in a lively conversation with the moderator. There were once again fantastic results and outstanding performances from top local athletes. And of course the region also wants to honor this in a special way: particularly successful athletes are honored if they live in the Borken region or if they belong to a sports club in the region. “Today’s honor shows once again the diversity of sports practiced in our region,” said Dr. Zwicker and then presented the “Sports Medals of Honor”.

After that, Dr. Kai Zwicker and Rorik Jansen from Bocholt for his special commitment as “Trainer of the Year”. He is a certified trainer of the German Olympic Sports Confederation, a fencing master at the Akademie d’Armes Internationale (International Fencing Academy), a member of the teaching committee of the German Fencing Association and, during his active time , multiple Dutch champion. The press release from the Borken region says that he knows how to motivate young people in a unique way.

“Thanks and recognition also go to all trainers, coaches and other managers in the clubs and those responsible for sports policy as well as the parents and family environment of our competitive athletes,” he stressed the District Administrator Dr. Zwicker especially at the end of the awards ceremony.
