Distance Learning in the Global South | DO | 02/24/2022 | 16:55

1.5 billion students worldwide were temporarily affected by school closures in 2020-21. It was easier for those who had wealthy parents and access to communication technologies. The pandemic has increased social inequalities – both within societies and globally. A study by the OECD and the World Bank has collected 45 case studies from different countries where local governments, NGOs and educational institutions have reacted quickly and innovatively to corona-related school closures with hybrid learning projects. Some of these positive examples also come from poorer countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, as Ulla Ebner reports.
