Dissatisfied cultural workers occupy Théâtre National in Brussels – Belgium

(Belga) A few dozen dissatisfied cultural workers have occupied the Théâtre National in the Brussels Emile Jacqmainlaan since Friday afternoon. They feel forgotten by politics. “We have been saying for a year now that opening the cultural institutions has no impact on the contamination figures,” it says. They invite the public to participate in their “festive event”.

The promotion started on Friday around 4 pm. About two hundred dissatisfied employees from the culture sector then went to occupy the Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles, as the culture house is officially called. According to comedian and director Denis Laujol, who co-organizes the action, thirty activists also spent the night there. Today there would be another fifty activists present. The organizers say they are not affiliated with any organization. They call on all culture workers who have been forced by the corona measures to stop working to join them. The director of the Théâtre National, Fabrice Murgia, supports the initiative. The last Consultation Committee was, according to Denis Laujol, the concrete reason for the action. “The cultural sector was once again completely forgotten, while the employees are insecure and struggling with feelings of depression. We have been saying for a year that opening the cultural institutions has no impact on the contagion rates.” The public is welcome to the action. The initiators describe their action as a “festive event”, with music, debates and activities for children, “always in accordance with health regulations”. (Belga)
