Orly Airport in Paris experienced a major baggage mishap, leading to chaos and delays for passengers. The airport authorities urged travelers to leave their luggage at the designated area near the entrance of the fourth terminal. The airport staff then transported the bags to a secure hangar, with passengers expected to retrieve them on their subsequent flights.
The malfunctioning sorting system also affected several airlines, causing numerous Thursday flights to depart from Paris with a three-hour delay. “We had no other choice,” said Marc Rochet, the CEO of French airlines Bee and Air Caraibes, in an interview with AFP.
To minimize the problems, the airport management redirected flights to other terminals and even to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.
French Minister of Transport, Clément Beaune, labeled the situation as unacceptable. Coincidentally, this incident occurred just a few weeks after the French government presented its proposals to improve the quality of services ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games next year.
The airport authorities are working to resolve the issue and ensure a smoother travel experience for passengers in the future.
