A shunting accident in Düdingen FR led to disruptions in rail traffic between Freiburg and Bern on Thursday. This was announced by an SBB spokesman in response to a request from the Keystone-SDA news agency.
Travelers had to accept delays and cancellations, especially in local transport. The restriction will last until at least 4 p.m., it was said.
During a shunting operation to a siding in Düdingen, four freight wagons jumped off the tracks at 6:30 a.m. Nobody was injured in the accident.
A road crane had to be called in to put the wagons on the rails, said SBB spokesman Reto Schärli. The railway line was only able to be used on one track until the afternoon. Long-distance traffic should be affected as little as possible, he said.
However, the S1 trains between Freiburg and Schmitten were cancelled, as were the RE3 connections between Romont and Düdingen. The RE2 trains made an extraordinary stop in Schmitten. Replacement buses ran between Freiburg and Schmitten.
