The starting point was good: the original is one of the most beloved films in the history of the animation studio.
Now Disney’s new commitment to remake some of its most famous animated classics as live-action films is no longer so novel to us. Relatively a few years ago the possibility of seeing some of the studio’s most legendary films come to life powerfully called to us. attention. In recent months only The Little Mermaid has been in movie theaters, while on Disney+ the most recent are Peter Pan & Wendy and Pinocchio by Robert Zemeckis, although none of them have garnered great reviews.
If we look back, the list of live-action versions of Disney classics is already quite long, but the studio has announced another good list of new projects in the short, medium and long term.
All the ‘live action’ versions that Disney is preparing after ‘The Little Mermaid’
However, when the ‘live action’ of Aladdin saw the light of day in movie theaters in 2019, it was only preceded by a handful of proposals: Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland -and its sequel-, Maleficent, The Book of the jungle, Beauty and the Beast and Dumbo.
Directed by Guy Ritchie and with a cast headed by Will Smith as the charismatic genie and Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott as Aladdin and Jasmine, Aladdin is, with 4.1 stars out of 5, one of Disney’s best live-action versions according to SensaCine readers. The film is available on Disney+, but we can see it openly today, Friday, September 29, from Telecinco at 10:00 p.m.
Despite the changes resulting from the change in language, the film, according to the review published by SensaCine at the time, “respects the audience’s childhood and continues to give us reasons to think that it was the best time of our lives” and that is one of its best trumps since, after all, “Disney was never as comfortable as it was in the 90s.”
In this new live-action musical adaptation of the Disney classic Aladdin (1992), the city of Agrabah crowned by the mythical and majestic castle of the Sultan, comes to life to introduce us to the young princess Jasmine (Scott), who lives with her father the Sultan (Navid Negahban) and the royal vizier Jafar (Marwan Kenzari), and of course the young Aladdin (Massoud), who after entering the Cave of Wonders, gets hold of a magic lamp whose Genie (Will Smith) has the omnipotent power to grant three wishes to anyone who possesses it. And that is why it is so dangerously coveted.
The film was received with mixed reviews, but the effort and good results of its musical numbers and the spectacular staging of all of them are worthy of applause.
