Wish celebrates 100 years of storytelling through its main heroine, Asha. Asha, played by Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose, wishes for a star, and what ensues is an adventurous journey that embodies hope, joy, and the power of dreams.
“At first, I was getting lost in the storytelling and the fairy tales, and I guess I didn’t quite know that this was where I belonged, but Disney was a big part of my childhood,” said Jennifer Lee, the film’s director and creative director of Disney Animation.
Lee added: “The work emphasizes the realization that the greater the desire, the harder the journey sometimes becomes, and it is a kind of celebration of the character’s perseverance.”
Juan Pablo Reyes, the film’s producer, confirmed: “When I was a child, my grandfather used to make me and my cousin sit on the carpet and tell us fairy tales. My first memory of being in the cinema was the movie ‘Beauty and the Beast’, and that’s how my love story for movies and stories began.”
“Wish” is a love letter to films from childhood, and a work that celebrates the power of wishing; The hope and passion that drives you to chase your dreams.
