A panic attack reportedly struck a visitor to Disneyland on one of the final runs of the Splash Mountain ride. In a video posted on social media platforms on Monday night depicting the incident, the person can be seen briskly walking down a platform trying to make an impromptu exit, apparently after hopping off one of the passenger-carrying logs.
The video, shared by @fatimamusic786 with KTLA 5, shows a fellow rider asking the escaped passenger what they were doing. “I can’t,” the person replied. “I’m seriously having a panic attack.”
The individual, who remains unidentified, did not appear to have been injured after leaping from the ride.
After over three decades of operation, Splash Mountain closed its doors last Wednesday at Disneyland. It will, however, be re-opened in 2024 as “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.”
Disneyland, situated in Anaheim, southern California, has been returning to normal operations since closing its gates for over a year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which continues to rage on.
According to theme park guidelines established by California public health officials, park capacity must be limited and advance reservations must be made. In addition, parks may only open outdoor attractions at 35% capacity during the duration of the pandemic.
These restrictions have had a significant impact on the park’s operation, with Disney California Adventure’s Avengers Campus receiving a muted public reception when it opened on June 4. The land was planned to open in July 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic’s ongoing impact.
Previously, in 2020, an outbreak of 13 COVID-19 cases, including eight among workers and five among park visitors, was linked to the park.
Before it shut down on March 14, 2020, Disneyland had been operating for 65 consecutive years. In 2019, over 18 million visits were recorded at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.
Further events at the park have included a recent fight between two families at Magic Kingdom, which was caught on tape and went viral in May. Also, celebrities such as Roseanne Barr, Christina Aguilera, and Gary Sinise were previously banned from the park.
