Disneyland Paris Employee Fired Over Waffle Incident: A Means of Stifling the Social Movement?

It’s a waffle that Loris has trouble digesting. After a year of good and loyal service within the Disneyland Paris amusement park, the 20-year-old employee, who officiated at a catering point, has just been dismissed, as reported The Parisian. And the reason for dismissal is puzzling…

On June 26, customers come to the Loris kiosk and ask for “the same thing as the previous customers”, which is to say “waffles, with both whipped cream and Nutella”. The young man would then have told them that “it was not possible and that they had to choose” between whipped cream or Nutella. The whipped cream-Nutella combo does not appear on the menu. If Loris agreed to make a difference with the previous clients, it is because they were his colleagues, according to the young man. “If I had given cream to the whole line, I would have been reproached for it”, he defends himself to the Parisian.

Customers believe that the employee would have answered them in a nonchalant tone. What Loris denies. For its part, Disneyland Paris considers that the young man “damaged the image of the company”.

A means of stifling the social movement?

The reason for this dismissal would, according to him, be quite different. In June, Disneyland Paris faced a major strike movement, aimed at obtaining salary increases in the face of inflation. Loris actively took part in these demonstrations. According to the young man, the management would like, like five other employees, to make him pay for his participation in these mobilizations.

Disneyland Paris declined to comment on this case. Loris, he does not lose his temper: “It’s a company that promotes magic but behind the scenes, it’s far from magical”, plagues the young man, who plans to seize the prud’hommes.
