Disney will require vaccination to cruise passengers for 5 years

Disney Cruise Line announced Wednesday that all passengers 5 years of age and older will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 beginning next year.

In a statement posted on its website, Disney said the new rules will go into effect on January 13. The vaccine was recently approved for children ages 5 to 12.

The cruise line currently requires that all eligible passengers 12 and older be vaccinated against COVID-19, while ineligible passengers must provide a negative coronavirus test taken between 3 days and 24 hours prior to let the ship set sail.

Minor children who are not eligible for the vaccine must complete the testing requirements, which must be a NAAT test, a rapid PCR test or a laboratory-made PCR test, the company said. Rapid antigen tests are not acceptable options, he added.

Disney’s vaccination requirement violates a Florida law that would fine companies for ordering vaccinations. Norwegian Cruise Line’s parent company sued the state over the law and won a stay of its implementation. The state appealed the decision.
