The last Pixar movie Soul appeared on Disney + not so long ago. The movie, in which Jamie Foxx can be heard as the character Joe Gardner, was well received. Gardner is, however, also voiced by a white actor in certain European countries and Disney is not thanked for this.Joe Gardner is a character with a dark skin color, but in Denmark the white actor has Nikolaj Lie Kaas gave his vote to Joe. This resulted in the necessary criticism.
He also made himself heard on Facebook: ”To me it is very clear: the man or woman who is best able to play a part should get the part”.
Other countries
A controversy has also arisen in Portugal. A petition is currently circulating there to replace the voice cast of Soul with non-white actors. The petition has been signed almost 20,000 times.
However, other European countries are doing better. In France Joe is voiced by Omar Sy |, known for the recent, popular Netflix series Lupine. In the Netherlands, Joe’s voice is provided by the Surinamese-Dutch singer Kenny B.
