This is a significant escalation in a conflict that has been going on for a year. Ever since Ron DeSantis, as part of his ultra-conservative agenda, initiated the law “ Don’t Say Gay which prohibits discussing LGBT issues in Florida schools.
Under pressure from its employees, Disney had publicly opposed the law. This had not pleased the governor at all. No doubt he also saw a rewarding fight against a giant, as part of his presidential ambitions well known, although not yet declared. He then decided to revoke the status granted to the company at the time of its installation in the late 1960s and which allows it to almost self-administer the county where it is installed.
Disney had then made organizational decisions before a new board appointed by Ron DeSantis reversed them. A few minutes later, a complaint was therefore filed in federal court in Florida, in the name of the right to freedom of expression. Disney denounces a retaliatory campaign by the state that is now affecting its economic choices. A spokeswoman for the governor rather evokes an attempt to go against the will of Florida voters.
