The streaming service Disney Plus has only been around in Germany for a few months, but the parent company Disney is already planning a big change. So the cost of the subscription should be increased. The company announced this at an investor conference.
That’s how much more expensive Disney Plus is
The prices for membership in the United States increase by $ 1.00. In Europe, the service becomes even more expensive. Here the monthly subscription is increased by 2.00 euros. So far, Disney Plus still costs 6.99 euros a month. You can take out the annual subscription for only 69.99 euros, which corresponds to a saving of around 15 percent *.
Why is Disney Plus getting more expensive?
The reason for the price adjustment are new investments to expand the range of films and series. This should make Disney Plus more attractive – especially for adults. As part of the expansion course, the streaming service has developed a new channel that will be called “Star”. Additional content is then available there to paying customers. Including: In-house productions from Disney’s US television stations ABC and FX, the streaming service Hulu and films from Searchlight and 20th Century Fox. As dpa reports, Stars will be available on February 23, 2021.
In addition to Star, Disney Plus also wants to expand its range with new in-house productions. Ten new “Star Wars” – and “Marvel” – as well as 15 new Disney and Pixar series are planned. There is also another “Indiana Jones” part. Disney hopes that this will increase the number of subscribers from currently 137 to 350 million.
When will the prices for Disney Plus rise?
With the start of “Star” on February 23, 2021, the prices for the streaming service will also rise. If you want to stream Disney Plus guaranteed for the next twelve months at a discounted price, you should take out the annual subscription for 69.99 euros per month before it is increased to 89.99 euros. This means you only pay around 5.83 euros per month for membership, which is 1.16 euros cheaper than the current and 3.16 euros cheaper than the future monthly subscription.
