Disney Plans to Create a ‘Star Wars’-Like Franchise with ‘The Lion King’ Spin-Offs

Good news for fans of The Lion King, because Disney plans to make many more series and films that take place in this world in the future. The first of these – the movie Mufasa: The Lion King – is scheduled for 2024. What we can expect after that is not entirely clear.

In an interview with The New York Times said Sean Bailey, head of Walt Disney Pictures, that the main focus is on expanding the Lion King-universe. The first thing we can expect in that area in a spin-off under the name Mufasa: The Lion King. That film has been in the making for several years and is being directed by award-winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins (Moonlight). Mufasa: The Lion King will hit theaters on July 3, 2024.

However, it does not stop there. According to Bailey, the intention is to The Ling King to make a franchise like Star Wars. “There are a lot of possibilities if we find the right storylines,” he said.
