One week before the launch of the Disney + application in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Walt Disney boasted a catalog that will be available. Immediately after launching on June 14, the service will offer more than 800 movies, over 900 series and 130 titles created exclusively for Disney +. For the first time on the Czech market, all content related to Star Wars or all 33 series of the Simpsons series will be available in one place. The content will be dubbed into Czech or with subtitles.
Disney +’s strategy is to offer “something for everyone,” so it will include animated stories from Disney and Pixar studios, Marvel fantasy films, the sci-fi world of Star Wars, educational geographic shows from National Geographic, and TV series and movies in the Star section. It will also make available content previously reserved only for paid Disney Junior and Disney Channel children’s stations.
The catalog offers the latest production and time-tested hits. During the press presentation, the company specifically mentioned the series Griffin, Surgeons, Desperate Housewives, The Living Dead, Jailbreak, In the Name of the Fatherland, Such a Modern Family, As I Met Your Mother, Lost, Glee, Scrubs or Ugly Betty. The new titles are Mandalorian, Obi Wan-Kenobi, High School Musical: Series, What If? or a new perspective on the life of the Kardashian family.
The animated menu consists of all parts Toy Story, The Amazing Spider-Man, Cars, Transformation, Soul, Coco, Encanto, Ice Kingdom, over 60 short films from Pixar. Kids will also have fun with Mickey’s ball or Hannah Montana. Films such as Death Trap, Predator, Moulin Rouge, Braveheart, Pretty Woman, Sister in Action and more are intended for adults. Pam and Tommy’s feature film tells the story of “the most famous erotic recording in the world,” which spread during the early days of paid websites.
Disney + will also shoot original content for local markets. In Poland, the local production team will search for content for the whole of Central and Eastern Europe. For the European, Middle Eastern and African markets, 60 special formats are to be created by 2024. Localization is important for Disney, and the application’s user interface will be translated.
In the coming weeks and months, Pinocchio, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Hokus Pokus, Rocket, Willow, Andor, I’m Groot, Old Man or American Horror Stories will appear on Disney +.
The publishing strategy will vary according to the titles, sometimes it will be after two episodes at once, other times the whole season will appear, or sets of parts with a time lag or limited miniseries. For example, Obi-Wan Kenobi will have four episodes on the day of the launch, others will appear on June 15 and June 22.
The price is CZK 199 per month or CZK 1990 per year, CZK 1,590 with early registration. Content will be available up to 4K, Dolby Atmos Audio is supported. Personalization is possible for up to seven profiles, four concurrent streams on different devices are allowed, as well as the GroupWatch function, to which the user can invite up to six family members or friends.
Technically, Disney + will be available on the web, on smart TVs (Android TV, Samsung, LG, Sony), Apple TV and Chromecast, on Playstation and Xbox game consoles, on Amazon Fire TV and, of course, on Android and iOS mobile phones and tablets.
