Disney+ gives the green light to the Percy Jackson series

The Percy Jackson series is stepping up a gear

Today it was revealed that Disney+ has officially given the green light to the next series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, based on the author’s best-selling novel series Rick Riordan. “The Wait Is Over, Demigods”, said Riordan in a video announcing that the saga will finally be entitled to a second youth in television form. “I am delighted to be the first to announce that Percy Jackson and the Olympians are really, really and definitely coming to your screens. »

Jon Steinberg is also writing the project and serving as an executive producer. Steinberg and his producing partner Dan Shotz will oversee the series. James Bobin (The Mysterious Benedict Circle, The Muppets, The Return) directs the first episode. Filming is expected to begin in June 2022.

Series Percy Jackson follows a 12-year-old boy who learns he is a demigod. He has just come to terms with his new supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his precious lightning bolt to give to Poseidon. Now Percy must cross America to find him and restore order to Olympus. If renewed for multiple seasons, then the series will address each new book for each season.

No launch date for the series has been set and no casting has been announced. Riordan, Steinberg, Shotz and Coil will serve as executive producers with Rebecca Riordan, Bert Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, Jim Rowe and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell and DJ Goldberg du Gotham Group.

The series will follow the order of the five books beginning The Lightning Thief.

Jackson and followed a teenager discovering that he is the descendant of a Greek god and then embarking on an adventure to settle an ongoing battle between the gods. The film grossed over $225 million on a $95 million budget. In 2013, the sequel Percy Jackson: Sea of ​​Monsters unfortunately did less with less than $200 million on a $90 million budget. The saga was thus not continued before being rebooted on Disney+.
