Disney announced its plans for the future on Investor Day. For fans of “Star Wars” or the MCU, it will be exciting – and confusing. We create order.
You shouldn’t measure everything in terms of money. However, if you take the stock market price as a yardstick, Disney did everything right with its announcements at the end of last week. After the group presented its projects for the future in a more than four-hour presentation on “Disney Investor Day”, the company’s share shot to a new all-time high.
In fact, it is impressive with what consistency the House of the Mouse is currently advancing its entertainment universe. There are new features and innovations at every nook and cranny of the program grid. Here are the most important ones at a glance.
Tons of new shows
In general, it can be said: Disney is currently operating on the principle “more is more”. The “Star Wars” universe alone will be expanded to include 15 new shows over the next two or three years. Starting with “Mandalorian” offshoots like “Ahsoka” or “Rangers of the New Republic” to “Rogue One” spinoff “Andor” or the TV series about Obi Wan Kenobi – the Force switches primarily to the Disney + streaming service up a gear.

Marvel relies on new heroes
Of course, Marvel doesn’t want to mess up. After Disney’s money printing machine finally stalled due to the pandemic, but also due to the conclusion of some stories (Iron Man, Captain America), it is now up to new heroes and the second guard to continue the success story of the MCU. The responsibility rests on the shoulders of Loki, Wanda, Falcon & Winter Soldier, Ironheart, Hawkeye, Groot, Ms. Marvel, She Hulk and War Machine, all of whom are receiving new shows on Disney +.

The MCU is totally networked
For those who have already lost track of things, things get even more confusing. Because Marvel boss Kevin Feige announced at the presentation that the MCU will be totally networked in the future. So far it was enough to have seen the films with Hulk, Thor and Co. in the correct order, now the new TV shows are narrative integrated into the Marvel universe. For example, Ms. Marvel from the TV show in the movie “Captain Marvel 2” (November 2022) will play an important role. In short: if you really want to see things through, you will have to look at everything with the Marvel logo in the future.

“Star Wars” is entering new territory
“Stars Wars” is the concern’s problem child despite “Mandalorian”. That’s why the Skywalker saga is a bit haywire; even the controversial Hayden Christensen is set to make a comeback as Darth Vader of the prequel films (on the Obi Wan Kenobi show on Disney +). But the series is also breaking new ground: In addition to the well-known “Star Wars” film by “Thor” director Taika Waititi, “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins is also currently working on a film about the X-Wing pilots. “Star Wars – Rogue Squadron” should come to the cinema in December 2023.

«Alien» lands on earth
Of course, on Investor Day there was not only news about “Star Wars” and the MCU. Highlights from Pixar, animated films, live-action remakes and sequels (such as “Sister Act 3”) will soon follow suit. With all the announcements, a small sensation that has been rumored for a long time in fan circles almost went under. Showrunner Noah Hawley (“Fargo”, “Legion”) will adapt the “Alien” franchise for TV. With alien father Ridley Scott as a mentor – and a story that takes place on earth. So entertainment on all channels will be ensured in the near future. Pandemic or not.
