The Barcelos Criminal Investigation Nucleus yesterday arrested a 26-year-old man in Maia for suspected fraud and theft, it was announced today.
In a statement, the guard explains that, after complaints that individuals would be asking for donations from door to door to an institution for the reintegration of drug addicts, the military has taken steps to identify them.
“It was found that, in addition to the institution being a scam and the possible fraud associated with it, the suspects stole the people they approached,” he says.
GNR source O MINHO explains that the man will have confessed to a fraud with theft in a parish in the municipality of Barcelos, which would have led the military to arrest him, already in Maia, while practicing the same crime.
One of the last victims was left without a wallet with two thousand euros, a gold ring, two purses, a set of keys and several personal documents, stolen inside a store.
The suspect, a drug addict and with a criminal record for theft, was approached and detained, at the headquarters of the fictitious institution, in possession of 370 euros and a gold ring.
Confronted by the GNR, the man admitted the authorship of the facts and also indicated the place where he kept the remaining stolen goods, having been recovered a lady’s purse, two purses, a bunch of keys, three checks, a passbook, four bank cards and personal documents. Some of these articles come from the theft in Barcelos.
The facts were referred to the Barcelos Judicial Court.
