Disk Space Issue in Mortal Kombat 1: Find out How to Free up Space

If you’ve been playing Mortal Kombat 1 on PC and you’ve started to feel like you’re running out of disk space after a while, we might have the answer for you. The players discovered that the latest effort from the NetherRealm studio does not have a very well-managed system for creating reports about game crashes, which, although it writes down all the details at the time of application failure, but supplements them with other files of disproportionate size. In other words, when players found out the reason why their disk space was disappearing, they began to compete with each other in how many crashlogs were deleted, and among the recorded cases there are those who freed up to 70 GB of space.

The magazine’s editors noticed the problem PCGamesN, who collected several posts from players on Twitter and Steam, pointing out that each log takes up around 1GB of space, which is anything but standard. A player with a nickname LouRagou he drew attention to it already on September 22, but players started to notice the problem only these days, when the game crashes quite often in Invasions mode. “All logs provide comprehensive information about a particular crash, but each report is almost 1GB in size. Don’t forget to delete all folders regularly,” LouRagou wrote a month ago, and more are being added. Players quickly discovered that each drop would create a new folder, each one roughly the same size, and dozens of drops in regular play were not unusual.

For example, in the wee hours of Friday morning, a post from a user with the nickname ImGodAwful1979 appeared again on Steam, pointing out the same problem as LouRagou, and he also mentions that the game doesn’t clean up after itself and players have to do it manually. But it should improve in the future, as the developers have finally noticed the problem and according to the community manager Cory Taylor they are already working on a fix on Twitter. Taylor was responding to a post by a well-known member of the Mortal Kombat community going by the moniker X-Azeez, who retweeted some of the above complaints. WB Games’ community manager confirmed that he has reported the issue to the development team and a fix will come as soon as possible. Until then, you have to help yourself if the problem concerns you, but at least now you know what black hole your free disk space is falling into.
