According to an announcement made by the social network Facebook on January 12, the company says it has dismantled nearly 17 disinformation networks. For this, more than 2,800 accounts have been identified and suspended, it is reported, whether they are on Facebook or Instagram.
The reason being the use of false identities and behaviors presented as “Inauthentic and coordinated”. The activities of these countries covered 11 countries, including Morocco, in addition to Argentina, Brazil, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. In most of those countries, the networks were focused on the upcoming elections and run by national groups, Facebook said as quoted by Reuters news agency.
“Deceptive campaigns like these raise a complex challenge by blurring the line between healthy public debate and manipulation,” the social network adds. Behind certain dismantled networks, Facebook explains that they are French and Russian groups rivals which disseminate information in the Central African Republic before the legislative elections envisaged in this country.
