– I am disappointed and despairing. It’s a shame for the entire skiing community and everyone who enjoys skiing in Bergen, because we don’t get many days of snow, says Mathias Oppedal.
He is the sporting director and head coach of the cross-country team in Fana IL.
The first training of the season for their cross-country team on Saturday morning was a little different than planned. Parts of the trail – approximately one kilometer – were destroyed by car tracks.
– Strong aftertaste
“The first ski trip of the season for Fana IL cross-country & biathlon, but a strong aftertaste that a person on 4 wheels has skidded up Grindåsvegen from Frotveit,” wrote Up on Facebook.

The Bergen newspaper mentioned the matter first.
– When the snow finally came, it was a joy for us. We are not blessed with as many skiing days as the rest of the country, so we use the snow we get. It is often thin, there are thin soles. They are vulnerable to all types of road users who do not have skis on, but a car will destroy any ski slope, says Mathias Oppedal.
He does not know for sure when the driving took place. The ski runs were run on Friday evening, so it could have happened any time between then and Saturday morning.

Happened before
The cross-country coach says it is actually not the first time there are car tracks on the ski slopes. In the summer, the track is a construction road.
– It’s boring. I don’t know if this is done deliberately, but it tends to happen early in the season when it is not fully established that this is a ski slope, says Oppedal.
He explains that Fana IL has a clear relationship with the landowner – where they agree that as long as there is snow, this is a ski slope.
– I am most sorry for the person in charge of the trails, because he spends an incredible number of hours all autumn preparing these trails. Yesterday he was out for many hours to run trails for us. Then it’s an incredible shame.
