A 20-centimeter ice sheet has frozen Ravnishte Street in the capital’s Gorna Banya district, BNT reported. The street is impassable for cars, and walking on it is extremely dangerous, locals said. There have been several incidents in recent days.
“I fell on the 24th, it was extremely icy here. I am now in hospital with a knee injury,” said a man who lives on the street. “We can’t walk, we can’t go to work, we can’t go to the store. God forbid we have to call an ambulance.” Due to the huge pieces of ice on the street, the garbage truck cannot pass.
So the garbage cans are already overflowing. The icing on Ravnishte Street is due to large amounts of fecal water, which overflow from uncleaned pits of unscrupulous residents of the neighborhood, said the district administration of “Ovcha Kupel”. With the sharp cold in recent days, these waters have turned to ice.
Yesterday, the inspectorate of Sofia Municipality tried to cultivate the terrain, but without much success. The work will continue. The only way to solve the problem permanently is to build a sewer, said the mayor of the Ovcha Kupel region, Angel Stefanov. The Sofia Municipality stated that a project for the construction of a sewerage system has been prepared for the street in question and it will be implemented with funding.
According to the mayor of the Ovcha Kupel region, Angel Stefanov, however, funding has been provided under an operational program, but the organization by the Sofia Municipality needs to be improved. Angelov insists that the district administration be allowed to participate in the sewerage project.
