A video from the American news channel CNN to highlight the large number of cyclists in Utrecht took a wrong turn with some residents of the city. The video begins with the statement “the city of Utrecht just outside Amsterdam”, something that the people of Utrecht disagree with.
The fourth largest city in the country is located 35 kilometers from Amsterdam as the crow flies. For the Americans, perhaps such a distance peanuts it is, but for Utrecht residents more than enough not to be “just outside Amsterdam”.
“Utrecht is not ‘just outside Amsterdam’. It is over a thousand years old, so Amsterdam is a city north of Utrecht,” writes one of them in response to the video on Twitter. Another Twitter user takes up the CNN statement. “Utrecht, the quiet suburb of Amsterdam.”
A twitterer also points out clear facts about the distance between the two cities. For example, it’s a 22-minute train journey between Amsterdam Central Station and Utrecht and it takes about 49 minutes by car.
